We were robbed today. Our laptop, half our movies (about 80 movies were taken) and our DVD player. Plus my wedding ring, long may it remain squished. I was gone for an hour and a half, and when I came home there were movies (dvds) scattered, and a bag of them in the kitchen, and the window was broken in our kitchen door. Plus it smelled like cigarette smoke. I panicked and left, and went to the manager's office, who then called the police.
We're doing what we can, but we didn't have renter's insurance (although we will now), so that's that. Mostly I just feel violated. Thankfully they didn't vandalize the apartment. Now that we don't have a computer, I'm not sure when I'll be able to post again, or what exactly we're going to do about getting another computer (which will definitely NOT be a laptop).
Keep us in your prayers. Hopefully next time I write I will have better "good news."
(Although we are doing ok. Mostly just shell shocked.)

Oh Thora - shocking indeed! There's just no preparation for that sort of thing (not without living in constant fear anyway). I hope you're able to find peace and calm once the shock wears off.
ReplyDeleteoh no! So your door was locked and everything and they broke through the kitchen window? Columbus is scary and now maybe I will ask Jeff if we have Renter's insurance, because I honestly don't know. Let us know if you need anything!
ReplyDeleteI feel so bad for you Bork! I hope that you and Avram will feel safer soon. I love you. I will call you again soon okay so you don't feel lonely. Mares
ReplyDeleteSo sorry. I hope there wasn't a lot of stuff lost on the computer. Lap tops are easier to steal than desk tops but desk tops can be stolen too. It did seem contradictory to read under The Good News of Thora "We've been robbed". Love you. Can't wait to see chubbers.
ReplyDeleteOh how creepy. I'm glad you are safe. I highly recommend renter's insurance. It's really not that expensive, either.
ReplyDeleteWe will keep you in our prayers and hope you can recover from this violation. What a terrible way to approach the end of the quarter.
ReplyDeleteHoly Cow! Thora! That's terrible! I'm so sorry, I will definitely keep you in my prayers, and I hope you're all safe!
ReplyDeleteIn the context of having your home broken into this probably sounds kind of insensitive and petty, but did you have your writing (nonblogged writing) backed up somewhere?
ReplyDeleteSorry, it was the first thought that came to mind when you said the laptop was gone. I remember seeing that picture of that cute little desk with the laptop and thinking what a neat little place for so much creativity to originate from.
Hope nothing more bad comes of having the computer taken. So much of life is stored on those things.
Oh Thora! I am so sorry. I don't know when you'll get this comment - but I'm glad you're all safe; hopefully the mental anguish will end soon, too.
ReplyDeleteWhat about pictures? On the comp I mean, I always worry because ours aren't backed up fully. That sucks so bad. Why was your ring squished?
ReplyDeleteOh Thora, I know that feeling of violation! I felt the same way when our car was broken into when we lived in the town homes (twice) and that was just our car. We had renter's insurance for all 5 years that we were renters, and never used it, but it's not that expensive. I highly reccomend getting some. Better late than never.
ReplyDeleteOh my what DVD's did they take?
ReplyDeleteKurusawa? Starwars? Storyteller? We shall find a way to remedy this.
(((Thora))) Im so sorry! That truly sucks! I know what you mean by feeling violated. When our car was broken into I felt violated too. I hope you feel safe soon and figure out how to replace things too.

Oh girl! My prayers are with you. We love you
ReplyDeleteI'm looking and looking and can't see my comment. I forgot to post it, I guess.
ReplyDeleteI can't remember what it was except sorrow that you have to go through this and hope that you will be comforted and have your stuff recovered.
Virtual hugs.
How weird, I came back to check out comments on this post and MINE didn't post either, I guess (I was surprised that Jami said the same thing)
ReplyDeleteI think it was just about I'm sorry etc. I think.
Back in the early days of our marriage, we were moving across town (San Antonio, TX), on a shoestring (i.e., multiple loads in a vehicle w/trailer...lol) and said vehicle broke down. It was a day or two before we could finish at the old house, and in that time it was burglarized. What hurt us the most was the loss of the various knick-knacks we had acquired dating - of no real resale value, but irreplaceable and priceless in sentiment. They took our washer and dryer, and we hoped they would use them, since doing a full load in the washer would cause it to overflow in torrents...lol. It is nasty and violating to be robbed like that. Sorry it happened to you.
